Joel Embiid contract is well worth it for the Sixers

Late Monday evening news broke that the Philadelphia 76ers and Center Joel Embiid have agreed to a 5-year, 148 million dollar contract extension. This contract has the potential to be the biggest bust in NBA History or a great deal for the team on Broad Street. Embiid the 3rd overall pick by the 76ers in the 2014 NBA Draft missed the first two years of his career due to foot problems, he finally got on the court last season only managing to play 31 games but he took the Basketball world by storm in those games averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while playing only 25.4 minutes a night.

Embiid like so much of the 76ers young corps is incredibly talented damaged goods, he is surrounded by 2014, 12th overall pick Dario Saric who joined the team last season after spending two extra years in Europe. 2015 2nd overall pick Jahlil Okafor, 2016 1st overall pick Ben Simmons who like Embiid missed his entire rookie season, and 2017 1st overall pick Markelle Fultz if this young team can stay on the court together in 3 or 4 years they will be a year in year out title contender. The Sixers were smart in this Embiid deal if he suffers another injury to his foot, or his knee which cost him the 2nd half of 2016-17 the Sixers can release him without any damage to their Salary Cap. Overall I feel this is worth a shot for the Sixers if this group can stay healthy the talent is unmatched by any young group in the league and Embiid is the centerpiece of that without a doubt. Furthermore, with a way out if an old injury crops up I don’t see how there is any risk in this deal.
