The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers pull off an NBA Blockbuster

The two best team in the NBA’s Eastern Conference have pulled off a blockbuster trade as two of the games best Point Guards have been traded. As the Cleveland Cavaliers have sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the Brooklyn Nets 2018 1st Round Draft Pick Unprotected.

This quite simply is the most earth shattering NBA trade in recent memory the two best teams in the Eastern Conference swapping two players who have finished top five in MVP voting in years past. The news came out a little over a month ago that Irving had asked the Cavaliers to trade him as he was done sharing the spotlight with Lebron James. The public spat between the two Cleveland stars reached almost Kobe & Shaq levels of nastiness and anger. Just weeks ago Thomas said his hip that he injured in the postseason against Cleveland was much better and he was ready to go. The Celtics felt otherwise, however, the biggest driving force behind this deal is probably the contracts of each player. Thomas is entering the final year of his deal and has stated many times he expects a Max Contract and teams will need to “Back Up the Brinks Trucks” Irving meanwhile has three years remaining on his deal at 19, 20 and 21 million per each year.

As a Celtics fan, I will say this it might be a slight overpayment in an MVP candidate, a very good role player, a young player and an unprotected lottery pick. However, it’s worth the shot Kyrie Irving is a superstar Isaiah Thomas is not. Irving will now team up with Al Horford, and Gordon Hayward to form Boston’s Big Three, and Thoams will join James and Kevin Love in Cleveland for one final go before James leaves for Los Angeles. Now through all this, I still don’t believe either team can beat the Golden State Warriors but the Celtics just got a lot better right now and still have a bright future and the Cavs have one more chance to win it all and a future that looked very bleak this morning now looks much better. Both teams come out winners in the end.
