The Jacksonville Jaguars led by a good performance from Chad Henne came into Gillette Stadium and topped the New England Patriots by a score of 31-24 as both teams opened their preseason slate. While the Jaguars opted to play the first strings for a while the Patriots did not Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola Malcolm Butler, Stephon Gilmore, and Devin McCourty all had the night off. Jimmy Garoppolo started the game for the Patriots under center and turned in another good preseason performance going 22-28 for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns highlighted by a beautiful touchdown pass to Austin Carr to end the first half.
Mid-way through the 3rd quarter the Patriots handed the reins to Jacoby Brissett to lead the offense the rest of the way, Brissett showed a slight improvement from his rookie season but he is still very raw.
The Jaguars started Blake Bortles, Leonard Fournette, Allen Robinson and all their starters in this one, and Bortles was outshined tonight by Chad Henne who might push him for the starters job and the rookie sensation Fournette looked phenomenal.
