WrestleMania Series: History of WrestleMania – WrestleMania XXX

We are finally at WrestleMania XXX. I have gone through twenty-nine WrestleManias. I can’t believe I actually stuck by it. I am in awe. WrestleMania XXX is a very important WrestleMania to the WWE, the talent, the fans and more importantly, to me.

I attended WrestleMania XXX on April 6, 2014. I was living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the time and since the show was only a twelve-hour drive to New Orleans, Louisiana, I had to go. I had so much fun that week. I went with my cousins and their buddies and we were all excited to be in New Orleans for WrestleMania for several days. I remember getting leaving home at around 9 PM and getting to New Orleans by 9 the next morning. But before I can go on any further I was in a RV with nine other people for several days, so we got on each other’s nerves pretty quickly. Anyway, we would travel through the streets of New Orleans. Eating po’boys on Bourbon Street and sipping on fresh crawfish in the French Quarter. We would travel all over the city until Saturday. On that Saturday night we would go into the Smoothie King Center to watch the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 Ceremony. It was absolutely unbelievable to be apart of such a historic event. Then the next day would arrive and it would be the big day. My dream would come true, as I would be live in a record-breaking crowd of 75,167 people that would pack the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for WrestleMania XXX. It would be a night I will never forget.

The WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 was the best class in my opinion. Headlining the event was The Ultimate Warrior. Joining Warrior would be Jake Roberts, Lita, Paul Bearer, Carlos Colón, Razor Ramon and Mr. T. Seeing all those legends be inducted, especially Warrior and Ramon will be an experience and night I would never forget. As a fan I am so grateful I was there.

WrestleMania XXX would have huge matches with a lot of writing on them. In the year leading up to the event, Vince McMahon would take a backseat for once and let Stephanie McMahon and her husband, Triple H take control of the company. Stephanie and the Game would call themselves, The Authority. Kane would give up the mask and his demonic side and be named Director of Operations, being called Corporate Kane. Triple H’s good friends and former D-Generation X buddies, The New Age Outlaws would also join the faction. More importantly, The Authority would unify the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship, now being known as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which Randy Orton would win, also being part of The Authority as well. Earlier in the year, John Cena would defend the WWE Championship to Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam (this was before the titles were unified). Bryan would win against Cena and then would have the title taken away from him by Triple H and Orton. Triple H would pedigree Bryan, leading to Orton cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, therefore, winning the title. Bryan would feud with The Authority for the remainder of 2013 and then leading to WrestleMania in 2014. The Authority would say that Bryan would always be a B+ player and will never be an A+ (saying that he isn’t good enough to be champion or the face of the company). After screwing Bryan over and over again, he would have no choice but to push Triple H and the rest of the Authority to the limit. He would occupy Raw and viciously attack Triple H, Orton and the returning and new #1 contender, that would challenge Orton for the title at WrestleMania, after winning the Royal Rumble; yes, Batista. Triple H would then state that the main event title match for WrestleMania won’t be just Orton vs. Batista, but will be a triple threat match. The third contender would be determined at WrestleMania and fighting for the spot will be Bryan and Triple H.

The second main event match would find itself to be between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar and his manager Paul Heyman, would openly challenge the Deadman for a match at the, “Show of Shows”. Taker would gladly accept. Heyman would state that Lesnar is a beast and a conquerer and that at WrestleMania, Lesnar will conquer the streak and he will be the 1 in 21-1.

The final main event match would be John Cena and new WWE Superstar, Bray Wyatt. Wyatt is a dark superstar and is the leader of The Wyatt Family, where henchmen Luke Harper and Erick Rowan join him. Wyatt would speak of cryptic linguistics, playing mind games on Cena. He stated that in order for Cena to cement his legacy complete, he would have to overcome him. Wyatt costed Cena title matches, which would lead to Cena to finally challenge Wyatt to which he accepted.

Experiencing all that history in one night was incredibly overwhelming. Seeing Daniel Bryan overcome the odds and finally defeat The Authority and capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was a hell of a moment. But speaking about moments; Seeing my favorite wrestler ever, The Undertaker, lose for the first time in WrestleMania history after 21 wins was heartbreaking. I never seen the Undertaker wrestle until that very night and to see him lose, it was a moment I will never forget. When the referee’s count went to three, the other 75,164 people in that arena (including me is 75,165), went completely dead silent. I couldn’t believe it. I was in complete shock. I literally witnessed history. WrestleMania XXX will be an experience I will never forget and soon I will see WrestleMania for a second time.

In the aftermath of WrestleMania XXX, Bryan would have to relinquish the championship due to an injury that kept him on the shelf for nearly a year. The Undertaker wouldn’t be seen again. Lesnar would win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and The Shield would be broken apart after a brief feud with the reformation of Evolution (Triple H, Orton and Batista). Seth Rollins would turn on his Shield brothers, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, aligning himself with The Authority. Rollins would also win Money in the Bank in the process. More stars from NXT would appear on WWE television and an absolute wrestling legend would finally arrive in the WWE, this was huge!
